The Cutting Gallery gives you a look at some step by step photos, and some
photos as the cuttings are healing. Many of the clients who come to me to get
cuttings travel, and as such I don't often get photos of the completely healed
brand. I hope to correct that situation soon, so you can see the great variety
of marks that are left as this extreme body modification heals into the skin.
So what is "cutting" ? The look on the person's face is always the same. My answer ... just exactly what you think it is. I take a sharp object and cut someone. "But why would anyone want that done to them?" Now the answer to that question is definitely not so clear cut (if you'll pardon the pun).
Cutting, ritual scarification, voluntary amputation ... these have all been, and still are being practiced in tribes and cultures worldwide. The purposes vary from person to person, tribe to tribe, ceremony to ceremony, but the result is always the same ... a Permanent Mark. Some tribes practice ritual scarification as marks of clan affiliation, rites of passage into puberty, or marks to commemorate deeds done in battle or elsewhere.
The very word "scar" evokes emotions in anyone who hears it or speaks it. A scar is something that never goes away. So the decision to be cut, or scarred, is a very deliberate and serious one. We all carry scars, physical or emotional from some event somewhere in our lives. Among us walk a few who deliberately ask for them, thus taking control of themselves and their bodies.
I do cuttings by appointment only and insist on a consultation beforehand. During the consultation, we will discuss your design ideas, and how they will translate into a cutting. We will also assess your skin type and discuss the level and type of scarring you seek. From this, we will determine an appropriate method of cutting, and proper aftercare techniques that will give you the best chance of achieving the desired effect, while avoiding complications.
